Questions -
Where do you get your design inspiration? I take inspiration from the various cultures I encounter on my travels and through my appreciation of art, nature, history and fashion. I have gained a deeper appreciation of architecture, particularly the work of Tadao Ando, Alvar Aalto, Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier.
What would you consider your signature design style? Relaxed, yet sophisticated; infused with timeless modernity, effortless elegance and subtle luxury. Clean lines, uncluttered spaces, contrasting textures, comfort, functionality and practicality are the main principles of my design style.
How does that compare with your own personal style? I gravitate towards a contemporary – classic look, interspersed with interesting one-off art works, sculptures, accessories and pieces of furniture that create unique proportions within a space. Having said that, my style is adaptable and tailor-made to suit each client’s needs, style and budget, whilst remaining integral to that of the surroundings; whether it be a period apartment in central Paris or a rustic villa in the Tuscan hills.
What’s your ideal project?
Where a client allows me free reign over every aspect of the commission.Do you have any special interests within the interior’s world? I enjoy creating an element of surprise by sourcing the unexpected and commissioning original pieces from the finest artisans.
How do you like to work with your clients? Whilst the design process remains similar i.e. Brief, Concept, Design, Realisation; my approach towards every individual project differs to suit the individual. For example, a developer might be more precise in knowing what they want and the time frame they are working towards, whereas a first-time homeowner may require more guidance and advice on how to hone their own personal style and how to optimise their budget, for the very best results.
How do you like to work with ethically sourced materials?
Since becoming a mother, I am even more aware of protecting our planet for future generations. I believe we can raise industry standards and increase awareness by adopting a sustainable and ethical approach towards design challenges.
